Special Queen 1 Strain Information
When setting out to create Special Queen 1, the skilled breeders here at Royal Queen Seeds had some very clear objectives in mind. Namely, they wanted to capture the savoury, skunky notes found in old-school genetics, as well as high levels of THC, good plant productivity, and colorful, frosty flowers. After some careful thought, they selected legendary parent strains Skunk and Power Bud to get the job done.
Originally bred by Sacred Seed Co. in the 1970s, Skunk descends from Afghani, Acapulco Gold, and Colombian landrace genetics. This legend rose to fame thanks to its unique sour and skunky flavor, high-energy effects, and rewarding yields. In the context of its Special Queen 1 progeny, Skunk passed down striking savoury notes and impressive potency. Similarly, Power Bud also passed down respectable levels of THC, as well as some sweet and sugary notes to help balance out the strong skunky element.
Special Queen 1 emerged from this pairing with a perfect balance of sativa and indica genetics. She possesses a tall and lanky sativa morphology complete with long colas and narrow leaflets.
Special Queen 1 Cannabis Strain Characteristics
Special Queen 1 features a long list of attractive traits that continue to win the hearts of many growers. Chief among them are her stunning colors. During the late flowering phase, the production of anthocyanins gives the colas a mesmerising appearance. Brace yourself for stunning shades of light green, orange, purple, and yellow.
Although Special Queen 1 has the tendency to grow tall outdoors, plants respond well to training. Indoor plants will grow to 140 cm when left unchecked, but won’t grow past 80 cm when subject to LST and topping. Outdoors, a full-grown Special Queen 1 specimen will peak at 270 cm if left to its own devices.
When it comes to productivity, the Special Queen 1 marijuana strain never leaves growers disappointed. Indoor plants produce 500–550 g/m² after a flowering time of just 8–9 weeks. Outdoors, plants grown in a sunny and fertile spot are capable of churning out up to 550 g/plant, typically ready to harvest in late September.

Special Queen 1 Flavor and Aroma
Special Queen 1 cannabis plants produce a complex range of aromatic chemicals, including terpenes and volatile sulphur compounds (VSCs). Terpenes are the most dominant flavor compounds within Special Queen 1 cannabis flowers, with myrcene, pinene, and caryophyllene occurring in noticeably high concentrations. Together, these phytochemicals provide tantalising tastes of fruit, musk, pine, and sweetness.
That said, volatile sulphur compounds also play an important role in the flavors and aromas of Special Queen 1 buds. These unique chemicals impart those characteristic dank notes of skunk, gas, and garlic.

Germinating Special Queen 1 Cannabis Seeds
Sow your Special Queen 1 cannabis seeds into cell trays. Add some homemade LAB serum to improve germination and protect your seedlings against common diseases. Maintain a temperature of around 25°C and humidity of 70% to further accelerate germination.
Start running your lights for 24 hours per day as soon as sprouts poke through the soil surface. This will help your seedlings develop quickly while preventing leggy stems that cause structural instability. Expect your Special Queen 1 cannabis seedlings to reach a height of around 2–3 cm by the end of week one.
-
Vegetative Phase
Transplant your seedlings into 10–15 l containers filled with a high-quality potting mix. Add some mycorrhizal fungi and slow-release veg nutrients for fertilisation and nutrient acquisition. Continue to run your lights for 24 hours per day.
Maintain temperatures of around 22–25°C and drop humidity to 60%. Expect your Special Queen 1 weed plants to grow to 5–7 cm by the end of week two and around 20 cm by the end of week three. Apply LST and topping at this stage to keep your plants smaller and easier to manage.
Continue feeding with a high-nitrogen liquid feed and regularly defoliate your plants to let air and light into the canopy. Your specimens will grow to around 30 cm during week four. Transplant them into raised beds at this stage if you plan on finishing them off outdoors.
Indoors, you're in full control of when you force your plants into flowering. Simply switch to a light cycle of 12 hours on and 12 hours off when you’re ready. Outdoor, this will occur as the seasonal light begins to wane.

Flowering Phase & Harvest
Depending on the container size and training techniques you’ve used, expect indoor plants to stretch to 80–140 cm during bloom. Outdoors, your Special Queen 1 plants will grow up to 200–270 cm. Switch out your high-nitrogen feed for a product higher in potassium and phosphorus to assist flower development.
Stay on top of defoliation during bloom. Remove older, yellowing leaves and ensure all buds are exposed to direct light. Lower indoor humidity to 40% to reduce the chance of mold forming in the canopy. Withhold all nutrients during the final two weeks of growth to flush your plants; this will force them to use up nutrient reserves, potentially resulting in a smoother smoke.
After a flowering time of 8–9 weeks, prepare to harvest. Start by cutting your plants at the base, close to the soil surface. Cut off the branches and hang them in your grow tent or shed with the lights off and fans running. After letting your branches dry out for 10 days, remove the buds, trim away the fan leaves, and place the flowers in curing jars for 6–8 weeks to perfect their flavor.
