One thing’s for sure; hybrids keep the cannabis industry interesting. New, unique crosses of old favorites inject novel flavors, scents, and effects into the mix. With so many options available, the hunt to find the perfect hybrid for your setup and preferences can be a daunting one.
Luckily, this list of the top crossbred strains breaks down some of the most diverse and exotic hybrids, with parents from disparate ends of the indica–sativa spectrum or hailing from distant regions of the world. With crossbreeds, old becomes new again!
1. Blue Mystic
This strain showcases exactly why experimenting with crossing strains is so important. The lovechild of Blueberry and Northern Light, this cultivar carries genetics from two of the most well loved cannabis strains in the world. The result is a specimen that offers a super strong indica stone alongside fruity berry flavors accented with hints of earth and spice.
Blue Mystic plants tend to grow outwards more than upwards, making for bushy and compact specimens indoors. Here, expect these plants to reach around 25–50 inches; outdoors, Blue Mystic can get quite big, topping out at 85 inches. Generally, we’d recommend giving Blue Mystic around one extra week in veg before flipping it to flowering. Once in bloom, expect it to take around 8 weeks to reach maturity (October harvest outdoors), at which point up to 1.4 oz/ft² indoors and 16 oz/plant outdoors of sweet buds will be yours for the taking!

2. Royal Cheese
Royal Cheese is not only legendary, but enjoys a “blue blood” reputation in the UK. The smoke she delivers is a sublime mix of sour cheese tastes and stoning effects. This is thanks to formidable parentage in the form of Old School Skunk and Afghan.
This seriously stinky hybrid can reach up to 60 inches indoors, but stretches all the way up to 100 inches when cultivated outdoors. Indoor harvests clock in at around 1.8 oz/ft², whereas she yields up to 21 oz/plant outdoors. Royal Cheese develops flowers seriously fast—you can harvest her in just 7–8 weeks from bloom. That said, if you have a little more patience and love the cheese-like pong, let her mature for up to 10 weeks.

3. Cherry Pie
Heralding from Granddaddy Purple (GDP) and Durban Poison, Cherry Pie is about as close to a true indica-sativa hybrid as you can get. Strong, sweet, fast, and generous, this crossbred plant takes the best traits of its two parents and combines them in a single package.
Cherry Pie grows steadily, resulting in a compact canopy that lends itself well to LST. Flip it to flowering in the normal time frame, then watch as a fat canopy of dense buds forms at a maximum height of 47 inches indoors and 70 inches outdoors. On the whole, this strain retains the conical shape of its indica lineage, though it does stretch a little more than some of its indica brethren. Taking 8–9 weeks to finish, you should get a good sense of how big the colas are going to be by around week 5, and then you can sit back and watch as they become ever more resinous. Get ready to haul in up to 1.5 oz/ft² indoors or 17.5 oz/plant outdoors in October.

4. Kali Dog
Kali Dog is a marijuana cross between Chemdawg and Sour Diesel. Bred around the turn of the century, growers love this strain for its relatively compact stature, dense growth, and generous yields—not to mention its pungent citrus-petrol scent. Kali Dog is not a plant for novice cultivators; but for those with the skill to grow her, she is worth it.
Kali Dog cross bred plants reach medium heights both indoors and out. In the former location, expect specimens to top out at 35–65 inches depending on any training techniques used. Outdoors in full sun, Kali Dog can reach up to 82 inches. The flowering time is a standard 8–10 weeks indoors, at the end of which she yields up to 1.5–1.6 oz/ft². Expect this yield but per plant when grown outdoors, with a harvest time of late October. Kali Dog is also a heavy feeder and loves strong bloom boosters and other nutrients. But for this extra effort you will be rewarded; buds containing 18% THC impart a clear and uplifting high perfect for the daytime.

5. Bubblegum XL
If you crossed Power Plant and Santa Maria, you wouldn’t necessarily assume the resulting strain would come to be called Bubblegum XL. The history of this cannabis cross begins in Indiana, then travels to New England, before making its way across the Atlantic to the Netherlands where it developed into what we have today. Bubblegum XL features exactly 50% indica and 50% sativa genetics, making for a balanced and enjoyable experience.
As its name suggests, Bubblegum XL exhibits robust growth, quickly developing a strong structure. Once flipped to flowering, the strain takes 8–9 weeks to reach maturity (outdoor harvest in October), reaching final heights of up to 55 inches indoors and 80 inches outdoors. As the grow progresses, fan leaves may take on some purple coloration if nighttime temps are low enough. Some growers like to harvest as early as week 8 of flowering, while others give it another week or even two before raking in up to 1.6 oz/ft² indoors or 16 oz/plant outdoors.

6. ICE
This seriously chill cannabis cross between Afghan, Northern Light, and Skunk results in a plant fully covered in resin glands—hence the name! Indeed, the buds produced by this magnificent hybrid are so frosty and sparkly that the moniker is only natural. And best of all, this strain is easy to grow, and fruitful to boot!
Like most heavily indica-dominant strains, ICE (aka Indica Crystal Extreme) is capable of remaining short and stout, reaching only 47 inches indoors. In this setting, she responds well to training and yields up to 1.5 oz/ft² of dense buds after 8–10 weeks of flowering. Outdoors, ICE can stretch up to 80 inches and churn out 17–19.5 oz/plant in late September or early October. Expect a robust body high from this strain, as well as fresh flavor notes of pine and mint.
7. Trainwreck
This is a three-way marijuana cross that combines the power of some fantastic landraces: Mexican x Thai x Afghan! Each of these wild specimens brings something distinct and important, not just to this strain, but to the world of cannabis in general. Regarding Trainwreck, the result of this cross is a 90% sativa plant with a fantastic terpene profile, invigorating effects, and robust growth.
As Trainwreck mostly contains sativa genetics, it requires a little more care compared to indica-dominant varieties. What’s more, it grows a little taller than many plants, reaching around 60 inches indoors and 80+ inches outdoors. However, it flowers relatively quickly, in only 9–10 weeks (late October harvest outdoors). As such, it’s a great option for impatient growers who want to try their hand at a sativa. This strain tends to shoot up quite fast, and once it starts to flower, it can double in size during the first week! Prepare for ample yields of up to 2 oz/ft² indoors or 25 oz/plant outdoors.

8. Royal AK
Royal AK is a shotgun blast of a crossbred strain, delivering an incredibly pure and uplifting high. This 18% THC powerhouse is the result of Colombian, Mexican, Thai, and Afghan landraces, resulting in a 60% sativa and 40% indica mix. The plant has an exceptionally strong scent as well, bearing tantalizing notes of berries, fruit, and diesel.
Indoors, Royal AK usually reaches between 31–55 inches in height, yielding 1.7–1.9 oz/ft² after 8–9 weeks of flowering. Outdoors, she can stretch to as much as 67 inches and produce between 21–23 oz/plant in mid-October. Despite being sativa dominant, Royal AK keeps the wait relatively short while retaining a sativa-like morphology and uplifting terpenes. For indoor growers looking to cultivate this specimen, consider using the ScrOG technique to maximize production and keep plant height to a minimum.

9. Dynamite Diesel | Tyson 2.0
Dynamite Diesel is part of our collaboration with Mike Tyson, where we bring his favorite cross breed marijuana strains to market as stable seeds. The progeny of Sour Diesel and Skywalker OG, this strain is mostly indica but contains around one-third sativa genetics, which prevents it from being too heavy regarding its stoning effects.
Requiring 9–10 weeks to flower, or a long summer outdoors, it’s not the fastest strain in the world but it is well worth the effort. It grows well, producing large canopies with many bountiful bud sites, and thanks to its robust nature, it takes well to training. During the vegetative stage it will grow to around 40 inches or so in height. And then, depending on where it’s growing and whether you’ve used any training methods, it can reach a maximum of 60 inches indoors or 80 inches outdoors. Prepare to support the branches in the final weeks of flowering, as it can produce up to 1.8 oz/ft² indoors or 24 oz/plant outdoors.

10. Fruit Spirit
Fruit Spirit results from a cross between Blueberry and White Widow, birthing one of the sweetest strains on the market today. The smoke Fruit Spirit delivers is outstanding. Alongside an 18% THC content, she also has a super-sweet blueberry taste.
This indica-dominant (70%) strain seldom reaches 40 inches when grown indoors. That said, she can still produce up to 1.4 oz/ft² after 9–10 weeks under powerful lights. Outside in a sunny environment, she can top out at 80 inches and deliver up to 18.5 oz/plant come mid-October. This is a great strain for growing in warm and tropical environments like Spain, Italy, Greece, Jamaica, and Brazil. In order to retain the characteristic flavor of this strain to its fullest, consider dry trimming your plants instead of wet trimming.
